Well, it is getting real, fast. After a fun filled five days of touring around Iceland I am here at race headquarters in Akureyri for the 2016 edition of the Fire and Ice Ultra, a 250 km, six day self-supported stage race. Kit check and medical review complete. Renewing aquaintances from past races and meeting new people. It is great to see everyone and I am looking forward to the week!
The weather forecast unfortunately looks cold and dreary but it will be good practice for the Spine Ultra in four and a half months. If we are lucky we might even get to see the Aurora Borealis in a couple of days!
Departe for the bivouac at 10:00 tomorrow. It appears to be a long bus ride to the start somewhere around Askja in the central highlands. Like the race Facebook page if you wish to follow, I don’t think there will be competitor posts from the bivouac and I am not bringing my cell phone along.
More to come when available!
